Hello, I’m Lucy, a milliner based in a small village in North Yorkshire.

I create handcrafted headpieces for a range of occasions, including weddings, race days, christenings, and special events. Each piece is thoughtfully designed and made using a blend of traditional millinery techniques and contemporary methods.

Featuring over 30 carefully placed feathers — goose, duck and pheasant — some finished with delicate golden tips, this design is all about understated luxury with a touch of Northern England’s countryside spirit woven through it. One of the things I love most about creating is that sometimes a design seems to guide itself. One thing I’ve learned as a milliner is that striving for perfection isn’t really what handmade is about. Handmade is about care, patience, and the journey each piece takes from start to finish. ❤️ Every stitch, feather, and label is sewn by hand, which means no two pieces are ever exactly the same. Sometimes a stitch is a little wider, or a feather refuses to lie perfectly flat — and that’s all part of the creative process. To me, that’s what makes handmade so special: it’s beautifully imperfect, and full of character in a way mass‑produced items never are. 🪡 When I step back and see how a design begins and how it ends, I’m always amazed by what can be created by hand. I know many makers and creatives feel the same way. This is the final piece to be handmade this year, and what better way to show this ~ each step across six slides. From the initial panels of sinamay, to the blocking stage, the wire cutting and sizing, handmade binding being set in place, all the way to planning the embelishments. Being such a small scale maker is always a juggle between making content, focusing on creating and designing, and sourcing and learning new materials and techniques. Id like to think ive made a small step into getting all of this in hand 🤞 As with any small scale maker, its the people who follow along with the journey that make the dream a little more close to reality. It may be a pinch obvious that this is my favourite new design for 2025! 🥰 A gorgeous deep plum toned purple coloured sinamay, hand blocked, hand shaped and steamed into elaborate curls and spirals which drape off the side. Fun fact ~ The hand steamed and shaped swirl was a massive 20cm wide by almost 120cm in length panel cut on the bias of the sinamay. I 💜 how simple something can be before its worked with. Once carefully halved and compressed via an iron and shaped, this piece becomes a long curved panel ready for trimming and binding. This piece will possibly be the last design for 2025, but 2026 is wide open for more experimental and structural concepts.
